In a world where Hollywood legends Tyne Daly and Georg Stanford Brown have left an indelible mark, their daughter, Alisabeth Brown, has carved her path in a different artistic realm. The 58-year-old found her true calling in the delicate and expressive art of ceramics, transforming simple clay into captivating sculptural vessels.

Born into a creative household, Alisabeth’s artistic journey began with dance. For 17 years, she pursued it passionately, but the rigid expectations of the dance world didn’t quite fit. Instead, she discovered an unexpected love in pottery.

Her approach to ceramics is as unique as her background. She describes her process as a “dialogue” with the clay, combining practiced skill with intuitive experimentation. Her signature technique involves slowly turning a banding wheel while shaping with a wooden kitchen paddle, giving each piece its own rhythm.

Based in Santa Fe, Alisabeth creates works that blend visual allure with deeper meaning. Her pieces often explore themes of ancestry, identity, and balance, inspired by her diverse heritage and life experiences.

While she did briefly work in film production, assisting on projects like Sister Act, Alisabeth’s true artistic voice emerged in ceramics. Her studio time is guided by curiosity, resulting in pieces that spark conversation about Indigenous futures and personal liberation.

She may not share her parents’ spotlight, but she’s definitely inherited their artistic spirit – and she’s using it to shape a legacy all her own.

Oldest Of Three Siblings, She Chose A Distinct Path From Her Two Sisters

Alisabeth is the oldest of three sisters, each carving out unique paths in life. Her sister Kathryne Dora Brown followed in her parents; footsteps, appearing in shows like Judging Amy and Promised Land. But her talents go beyond the screen – she’s also dabbled in baking and teaching preschool.

The youngest of three, Alyxandra Beatrice Brown, found her calling in the culinary world. She co-owns Five Petal Creations, a bakery in Victoria, BC, with her husband Mark. Their business blends Alyxandra’s baking skills with Mark’s culinary expertise.

She Has Two Children With Her Ex-Husband

Alisabeth’s creative world wasn’t confined to her pottery wheel; it extended into her marriage with fellow artist Eleas Kostis. This dynamic duo seemed like a match made in an art studio, both carving out their unique paths in the creative universe.

Kostis, a true Renaissance man, has built a more than two decades long career in 3D design, interactive art, and sustainable sculpture. He helms his own company, StandarDesigns, and moonlights as a furniture designer for the Dovetail Collection Gallery.

But even with shared artistic passions, the love story of Alisabeth and Eleas hit some rocky terrain. On March 19, 2004, Alisabeth filed for divorce, bringing an end to their marriage.

While the details of their wedded bliss (and woes) remain as elusive as a rare piece of antique pottery, one thing is clear: their creative legacy lives on in their two children, Hana and Fynn. Though the marriage didn’t last, Hana and Fynn were raised in a household buzzing with art and innovation, soaking up their parents’ creative spirit like sponges.

Like Mother, Like Daughter: Hana Kostis Emerges as an Artist

Creativity runs deep in Alisabeth’s family, with her daughter Hana now making her own mark in the art world. Her recent exhibition, An Incoherent Body, showcased her unique vision at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Santa Fe.

Hana’s work blends sculpture, ink studies, and archival prints to explore the human form in fresh ways. Her copper sculptures, featuring intricate hand-made textures, invite viewers to reconsider how we see and understand the body.

Hana is also an artist.

The exhibition, which ran from May to June 2024, was a significant moment for both Hana and the art community. It marked the grand opening of ICA Santa Fe, putting Hana’s work at the forefront of the city’s contemporary art scene.

Hana’s Instagram offers glimpses into her creative process and inspirations, showing she’s as comfortable sharing her art online as in galleries. Her rise in the art world proves that artistic talent continues to flow through the Brown-Kostis family line.

While forging her own path, Hana’s success echoes her mother’s journey of finding artistic expression beyond traditional Hollywood routes. It seems the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – or in this case, the pottery wheel.
