Jamie Kellner, an American television executive known for his role in the development and success of several significant television networks and programs, passed away on June 21, 2024, at his home in Montecito, California. He was instrumental in the launch of the Fox Broadcasting Company in the late 1980s. Later, Kellner played a key role at The WB Television Network, serving as its first CEO and helping to launch shows that became cultural phenomena, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dawson’s Creek.

In 2001, Kellner took over as chairman and CEO of Turner Broadcasting System, overseeing networks such as CNN, TNT, and TBS. His tenure at Turner was characterized by significant changes and controversies, including decisions about programming and management that received varied reactions from both the public and industry insiders.

Furthering his impact on media, Kellner founded ACME Communications in 1997, guiding the company to become a leading station ownership group. As chairman from the company’s inception until it ceased operations in 2016, the TV titan oversaw its expansion to include 12 stations at its peak. He settled in Montecito with his soulmate, Julie, and embraced pursuits like sailing, golf, and winemaking at his Cent’Anni vineyard in Santa Ynez Valley. He was also passionate about architecture, designing and building several homes.

Kellner leaves behind a fortune of $3.5 million and a substantial legacy in television that continues to influence the industry.

He is survived by his longtime wife, Julie, their children, Melissa and Christopher, and three grandchildren, Jake, Scarlett, and Oliver.
