News anchor Heidi Alagha has captured the hearts of Tucson’s evening news audience. A proud alumna of San Diego State University, Heidi, 32, dived into media as a video editing intern before her career truly took off.
Starting as a writer at KUSI Television, she swiftly climbed the ranks, becoming a beloved morning news anchor at KRBC-TV in Abilene, Texas. Her journey continued in Waco, Texas, at KCEN, where she further sharpened her reporting and anchoring chops.
Since August 2021, Heidi has been lighting up the evening news at KGUN 9. Off-air, she’s a whirlwind of fun, constantly tackling new challenges to delight her viewers on her YouTube channel, where she brings her infectious enthusiasm to every job.
Here are some interesting facts we’ve uncovered. Check them out!
Her Family Is From Syria
Growing up, Heidi spent her summers in Aleppo, Syria, where her grandparents chose to remain despite the ongoing civil war, valuing their home over safety. Her grandmother, once vivacious and talkative, had become quieter as the conflict wore on. In an interview with Susan Murphy from KPBS in 2014, she related to the protestors, reflecting:
It’s so unstable in their own homes, it’s almost unimaginable of how they’re even still living there. There is that big attachment that’s happening with a lot of the elderly people who just don’t want to leave, They’re like, ‘If I’m just going to die, I’d rather die in my house, in my country, in my homeland.
Despite the uncertainty back in Syria, Heidi revels in the cheerful moments with her father, as captured in the lively snapshots she posts on Instagram. Their glowing smiles during bright get-togethers and warm hugs at the airport radiate their genuine happiness.
On the other hand, Heidi and her mother, Batool Chaban-Morales, also maintain a healthy relationship that effortlessly bridges the distance between Tucson and Hawaii. After divorcing Heidi’s father, Batool who holds a master’s degree from National University married Cesar Morales, a retired military pilot. The new couple currently resides in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Heidi eagerly anticipates each reunion with her mom, knowing their time together will be unforgettable. Whether it’s a planned holiday celebration or a spontaneous trip, each encounter with her mom is filled with delight and warmth.
Her Sister Is A Dentist
The intimate sisterhood between Heidi and her sister Julie, a dentist in Phoenix, is enriched by their steadfast support for one another. Their connection shines brightest during milestones like Julie’s marriage to Hareth and their graduation.
Heidi also holds a special place for her nephew, Dean, who will always have her undivided love and attention.
She Likes To Coordinate Costumes With Her Dog On Halloween
Heidi’s life is brightened by the pitter-patter of tiny paws belonging to Louie, her cute 8-year-old Pomeranian mix. Louie isn’t just a pet; he’s her fur baby, enhancing her days with companionship, whether they’re relaxing at home or strolling through the neighborhood.
This friendship truly sparkles each Halloween, as they get creative with their costumes—transforming from superheroes to beloved Disney characters. She loves sharing these quirky, coordinated looks with her social media followers.
She Underwent A Minor Surgery During The Pandemic
On April 9, 2020, Heidi shared a throwback video on Instagram, sharing a moment right after a minor procedure aimed to enhance her breathing. In the clip, Heidi, on bed rest in the hospital with a band-aid being applied to her bleeding nose, hilariously insists to get back to work.
