The condition had apparently not been diagnosed before his death, making his passing especially unexpected for those closest to him.
Cardiomegaly itself refers to an enlargement of the heart and can develop because of several underlying medical conditions. In Jansen’s case, his family said the condition, together with complications involving the aortic valve, contributed to his sudden death.
His Family Released a Statement After His Death
Following Jansen’s passing, Hayden Panettiere and their parents, Lesley Vogel and Alan Lee “Skip” Panettiere, released a statement addressing both the cause of his death and the enormous loss their family had experienced.
They remembered Jansen as a creative young man whose personality, humor and artwork had brought happiness to the people around him. His family specifically spoke about his smile, dry wit and artistic talent while reflecting on what they would miss most about him.
The statement also helped answer speculation surrounding his unexpected death by confirming that there had been a medical cause rather than any indication of foul play.
For Hayden, however, knowing the medical explanation did little to lessen the emotional impact of losing the person who had been part of her life since childhood.
Jansen Panettiere Followed His Sister Into Acting
Born on September 25, 1994, Jansen was more than five years younger than Hayden. Growing up in a family already connected to the entertainment business, he began acting while still a child.
He appeared in television series and films throughout the 2000s and 2010s. His credits included projects such as Even Stevens, Hope & Faith, and The Walking Dead. He also worked as a voice actor.
Jansen and Hayden had opportunities to work together as well. They both appeared in the 2004 Disney Channel movie Tiger Cruise, while Jansen also had a role connected to the 2005 family film Racing Stripes, which starred Hayden.

Outside acting, Jansen was an abstract artist who created colorful and expressive paintings. He regularly shared his work online and had begun dedicating more attention to his art before his death.
Painting gave him another way to express himself creatively after spending much of his childhood and teenage years working in front of cameras.
His family highlighted his artwork when remembering him after his death, describing his paintings as one of the lasting expressions of his creative personality.
Jansen remained active on social media shortly before he died. About a month before his passing, he shared a photo showing Hayden cutting or styling his hair, offering a glimpse of the relaxed relationship the siblings shared away from their professional lives.
Hayden Panettiere Was Devastated by Her Brother’s Death
Hayden later spoke openly about how deeply Jansen’s death affected her. She described losing her younger brother as losing “half of her soul.”
As the older sibling, she also struggled with guilt after his death. Hayden felt that protecting Jansen had always been part of her role as his sister, and she found herself questioning whether there was anything she could have done differently.
