His Role in Queen Charlotte Spiked Fans Gaydar

Freddie’s portrayal of Reynolds has been a massive hit, especially among LGBTQ+ viewers. The character’s secret romance with Brimsley, played by Sam Clemmett, brought a refreshing depth and inclusivity to the Bridgerton universe.

Freddie has shared his thoughts on playing Reynolds and the significance of this role in various interviews. When asked about filming intimate scenes with Clemmett, he emphasized the importance of creating a safe and respectful environment.

He told Out magazine, “They created such a safe space. Obviously, with all intimate scenes, it requires vulnerability. The conversations we had surrounding the scenes and the fact that they were there on set talking us through and choreographing us just made it actually sort of an amazing, amazing experience.”

In another interview with Shondaland, when asked, if finding romantic on-screen chemistry with Sam was hard, Freddie said,

It was surprisingly easy, actually. We did have help from Lucy Fennell, who was our wonderful intimacy coordinator on set who helped us choreograph specific moves when it came to the intimate scenes. But actually, Sam became — this is a bit cringe — but Sam became one of my best friends in the world really quickly. We found such a sense of play in our time together on set. I truly loved working with him. I loved working with you, Sam. That joy made it so easy.

The trust and comfort between the duo translated into a believable and heartfelt on-screen romance that fans quickly adored. What’s more, their on-screen chemistry was so convincing that it led many fans to speculate about their real-life relationship and sexuality.

Some even thought that Dennis and Clemmett might be gay in real life because of their performances. But we know Sam is straight; he’s been married to his wife Danarose Lobue since 2022.

Freddie, on the other hand, he’s a different story. Unlike Sam, he’s not married or dating anyone. Yep, you read that right, he’s single—unless he’s hiding his partner behind a massive rock or something. This very fact leaves fans speculating on his sexuality and until and unless Freddie comments on whether he’s gay or not, the speculations won’t budge.

He Is Proud of His Queer Character

Freddie has expressed his pride in bringing a gay storyline to the Bridgerton series. In an interview with Pride, he said,

I am incredibly proud of bringing an LGBTQ+ story to the Bridgerton series. It’s so important that people feel represented by what they see in film and television, and Bridgerton is famously inclusive and diverse. It’s been such a privilege, and I am so proud.

What makes Reynolds and Brimsley’s romance special is how it avoids tokenism. Their relationship is integral to the plot, showcasing them as fully-developed characters with their own conflicts and desires.

Freddie summed it up perfectly: “It’s such it’s such a celebration of love, actually. The whole show, actually all of Bridgerton, is about love and it’s just completely brilliant that we can celebrate the love that exists between these two young men.”

His Living Together Situation with Corey Mylchreest Has Raised Eyebrows

There have been a lot of questions surrounding the actors ever since Corey moved in with Freddie, sparking rumors that there might be more than just friendship between the co-stars. Fans have been quick to speculate about the nature of their relationship, especially given their close bond on and off set.

But before you jump to conclusions, it’s worth noting that Corey is not gay, and it has been said that he has a girlfriend. The two are simply roommates, a common setup for new actors trying to navigate the high costs of living in London.

With rent being notoriously expensive, sharing an apartment makes financial sense and offers a built-in support system during the ups and downs of their budding careers.

His Father Is a Renowned Comedian

Freddie’s journey into the entertainment industry seems almost predestined, given his creative family background. Born in London, Freddie is the son of Hugh Dennis and Kate Abbot-Anderson. His parents were married in 1996 but separated in 2015. Freddie also has a younger sister, Meg.

His father is a comedian, but he’s not just any comedian; he’s a big deal in the British comedy scene best known for his roles on Mock the Week and the beloved sitcom Outnumbered.

He Wanted To Become a Cartographer But Left It For Acting

Surprisingly, acting wasn’t Freddie’s first goal. He pursued higher education at University College London (UCL), where he studied Geography. As for why, he jestingly said to WWD, “What made me do geography? A passion for the world.”

However, his passion for the arts couldn’t be contained. He eventually enrolled in the Oxford School of Drama to hone his acting skills in a short, one-year course.

The English actor made his professional acting debut with a role in the TV series The Nevers in 2021. His big break came when he landed the role of Reynolds in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, a role that brought him significant acclaim.
