Ferran Torres has become the hero for his winning goal in the 2026 World Cup final making headlines in almost all news networks. But apart from his winning score, the forward is also in the news for a completely different reason. The player was seen wearing a red cap that read “Make Spain Great Again,” a straight lift from Donald Trump’s slogan during Spain’s victory parade in Madrid.

And the most interesting coincidence that has raised major eyebrows is the fact that it was Trump who had handed Spain their medals and trophy right after the match. People seem to be quite divided about whether Ferran’s gesture was just a reminder of a comeback, a victory that came 16 years after winning its first FIFA World Cup in South Africa in 2010. Or was it Torres mocking the president or taking a shot at Spain’s own government instead? Or just messing around after the best moment of his career?

Spanish outlets played it safe, calling it a “reference” and leaving the meaning open. However, Reddit didn’t play it safe. You can guess what happened next.

Why Did Ferran Torres Wear “Make Spain Great Again” Cap? Redditors Have Interesting Opinion

Torres wore the cap twice during the parade. Backward first, then flipped forward while he chatted with teammate Nico Williams. That was all it took.

The action spread everywhere across all social media platforms along with different subreddits. While some decoded it as a troll job on Trump, stating he’d hyped up Argentina before kickoff. However, others pointed out the statement simply echoed language used by Vox, Spain’s right-wing party, and concerned Torres meant it more sincerely than people wanted to admit.

Moreover, another group suggested everyone to relax and not over analyze things and that it was just a hat that he wore during celebration.

Anyway, reading through the thread, the only thing that stands out is that nobody actually knows what Torres meant by it. And at the end it’s just people opinion that is mostly based on what they already believe.

Does He Actually Support Trump?

No. There is no real evidence that points either way. Torres has never made any such statement before or after the world cup so it’s safe to say that the cap gesture is apolitical and rather a footballer using a viral slogan mid-celebration, not a political statement.

What Is Ferran Torres’ Political Ideology?

So far, Torres has not talked about his political ideologies in public, and you won’t find anything on record that pins him to a side. So look at the context instead. He plays for Barcelona, a club built around Catalan identity and a fan base that leans progressive on most social issues.

He also suits up for the Spanish national team under a Socialist-led government, and he’s never clashed with either side. That combination points to a player who keeps his politics out of the public eye on purpose, which makes sense for someone whose sponsors and fans span the whole spectrum. Until Torres says otherwise, it is better if we treat the cap as a viral moment. Not a manifesto.
